On January 8, 2025, authorities in Santa Rosa, California, discovered the bodies of four family members inside a residence on Monarch Court. Among the deceased was Cameron Guth, a 28-year-old man, along with his father Clive Guth, 67, his mother Donna Guth, 67, and his sister Raena Guth, 33. The tragic incident was initially investigated as a multi-person homicide, with law enforcement conducting a search warrant in San Jose to gather further evidence.
However, subsequent findings indicated that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide, with Clive Guth believed to be the perpetrator.
Authorities were alerted to the situation after a concerned boyfriend of one of the victims reported that he had been unable to reach his partner since January 5. A neighbor also noted that the family had not followed their usual routine of taking out the trash on January 6, raising further concerns. When officers arrived at the home, they had to force entry through a window, where they found the Guth family members in different areas of the house, each with significant gunshot wounds. A semi-automatic handgun was discovered near Clive Guth’s body, which investigators later determined had been in his possession for a considerable period.
While the precise motive behind the tragedy remains unclear, authorities suspect that financial difficulties and medical challenges faced by Raena and Cameron, both of whom lived with disabilities, may have contributed to Clive Guth’s actions. The family had lived in the Monarch Court home for over a decade, originally moving in to care for Donna’s mother. Following her passing, Donna secured special permission from the Valle Vista senior community to allow her disabled adult children to remain as permanent residents.
The case has left the Santa Rosa community in shock, as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances leading up to the tragic event. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in their ongoing investigation.
