On the evening of January 11th, a Saturday, police were called to Hillcrest Avenue following reports of a car crash and gunfire. First responders arrived to a somber scene, discovering Ramirez deceased inside the wrecked vehicle. It was determined that he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, which caused him to crash the car he was driving. Another teenager, a 16-year-old who had been in the vehicle with Ramirez, was also shot, sustaining a wound to his foot. This individual fled the area before authorities arrived but was later located and taken to a local medical center for treatment.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
