In the early morning hours of a Friday in Lexington, Kentucky, the life of 24-year-old Elmer Joseph Eldridge was tragically cut short. A shooting occurred around 5:50 a.m. on the 300 block of Newtown Pike, leaving Mr. Eldridge with fatal injuries. He was quickly transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:26 a.m.
His death marked the sixth homicide of the year in the city.
The investigation into the shooting led police to arrest 40-year-old Mia White. Later that same day, she was charged with murder in connection with what authorities have described as a domestic violence incident. According to court records, White and Eldridge were in a relationship. Following her arrest, Mia White was held at the Fayette County Detention Center and has since made court appearances, including a not-guilty plea being entered on her behalf.
Known to his friends as 'Zuki,' Elmer Eldridge was remembered as a loving and caring individual. A graduate of Leslie County High School, he worked as a forklift driver. He was a father to a young daughter and was described as a cherished friend, father, and brother by those who knew him. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner's Office to officially determine the cause of his death.
