John Brunious, a 60-year-old man, was fatally shot in the head during a domestic disturbance in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago on the morning of March 11, 2025. The incident occurred inside a home on the 5400 block of West Ferdinand Street. Paramedics arrived at the scene around 8:40 a.m. and pronounced Brunious dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide.
During the same incident, a 39-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to her left thigh.
She was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. According to police scanner traffic, the shooting may have resulted from a struggle over a firearm. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made or identified any suspects in connection with the case. Area 4 detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
