On February 21, 2025, 27-year-old African American woman Briana Payne was found deceased alongside her three daughters—7-year-old Aurorah Tatiana Payne, 6-year-old Ava Denise Payne, and 4-year-old Alayna Jai Payne—in their Lake Station, Indiana home. Each had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The Lake County Coroner ruled their deaths as homicides.
