Richard was last seen in Avra Valley, Arizona on the evening of July 7, 1986. He disappeared with his grandfather, Roland Himebrook, whom he lived with in the 17700 block of Chinle Place in Marana, Arizona. They were reported missing by a friend of Himebrook's on July 12. Neither of them have been heard from again. They both left behind all their clothes, and it's uncharacteristic of Himebrook to drop out of sight without telling his daughter.
