On the evening of March 13, 2025, 24-year-old Kailie Reese Brannum, a white woman from Oakland, California, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Motel 6 along Oakland's Embarcadero. The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Oakland police responded to reports of gunfire and found Kailie unconscious and not breathing; she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between Kailie and a man she had been dating.
