On April 4, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. The event occurred at a residence located at 4520 Twin Lakes Boulevard. Carlos Reyes, a 28-year-old male, arrived at the home and opened fire, fatally shooting Michelle Rodriguez, a 24-year-old female, and critically injuring Ryan Kruse, a 24-year-old male. After the shootings, Reyes turned the gun on himself.
Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, while Reyes and Kruse were transported to Broward Health Medical Center. Reyes succumbed to his injuries shortly after, and Kruse passed away six days later on April 10, 2025.
Ryan Kruse was a resident of Fort Lauderdale and had recently completed his Associate's Degree from Broward College. He was preparing to return to school in the fall to study Computer Engineering. Kruse was known for his vibrant spirit and was employed part-time as a chocolatier at Läderach Chocolates.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. As of now, authorities have not released information regarding the relationships between Reyes, Rodriguez, and Kruse, nor have they established a motive for the shootings.
In the wake of this tragedy, the community has come together to support the Kruse family. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated by Kruse's aunt to assist with funeral and burial expenses, highlighting the family's profound grief and the unexpected financial burdens they face.
