On May 3, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded at McCabe's Bar in DeLand, Florida, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Keshod Harris. The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. after a fistfight broke out between several men inside the establishment. Witnesses reported that during the altercation, one of the men pulled out a firearm and began shooting. Harris, a resident of DeLand, was struck multiple times in the chest. He was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
A bartender was also injured in the incident, sustaining gunshot wounds to both hands, though his injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Authorities launched an investigation into the shooting, and on May 5, DeLand police arrested 24-year-old Avantae Traeviyon Williams in connection with the crime. Williams, also a resident of DeLand, was charged with second-degree murder by use of a firearm and booked into the Volusia County Jail without bond. Williams, a former high school football standout who had played for the Miami Hurricanes and the University of Maryland, was identified as the shooter who fired seven shots, six of which struck Harris in the chest.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police continuing to collect evidence and conduct interviews. Approximately 40 patrons were present at McCabe's Bar during the incident, and authorities are seeking additional information from witnesses. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting, possibly in a vehicle. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with relevant details to come forward to assist in the case.
