In a tragic turn of events on April 6, 2025, 19-year-old Hispanic male Michael James Suazo of Pueblo West, Colorado, was killed in a drive-by shooting. The incident occurred near the intersection of North Hudson Avenue and the East Highway 50 Bypass in Pueblo. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Suazo inside a vehicle, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Two other individuals in the car with him were evaluated for minor injuries.
The investigation into the homicide led the Pueblo Police Department to identify two suspects. More than a month after the shooting, on May 20, 2025, the U.S. Marshals' Colorado Violent Offender Task Force located the suspects. A 15-year-old male, whose name has not been publicly released due to his age, and 24-year-old Caitlyn Gonzales were taken into custody after a vehicle pursuit that ended in the city of Fountain.
Following their apprehension, the teenage suspect was transported to Pueblo Youth Corrections. He faces charges of first-degree murder after deliberation and violating juvenile parole. Caitlyn Gonzales was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on felony charges of being an accessory to a crime and tampering with physical evidence, as well as a misdemeanor charge for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The arrests were the result of a collaborative effort involving several law enforcement agencies, including the Pueblo Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, Fountain Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Corrections, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
