Elijah Keyandre Bates, a 19-year-old male from San Francisco, was fatally shot on May 2, 2025, in the Mission District. The incident occurred at a home located in the 3000 block of 26th Street, where officers from the San Francisco Police Department responded to reports of a possible shooting just before 1 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Bates suffering from gunshot wounds.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Initially, authorities did not release any suspect information, and no arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. However, on May 7, 2025, San Francisco police, in collaboration with Novato police and the Marin County SWAT team, conducted a coordinated operation in Novato. During this operation, they arrested 21-year-old Trayvon Williams in connection with the murder of Bates. Williams was located at a residence on Alameda Del Prado in Novato, and residents in the area were advised to remain indoors during the SWAT operation.
Williams is currently being held on charges of murder and first-degree robbery. The investigation remains open and active, with authorities continuing to seek additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting. This incident marks San Francisco’s sixth homicide of the year, with two additional homicides occurring in the days following Bates’ death, bringing the total to eight for the year.
