In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Tucson, Arizona, the life of 23-year-old Rene Miguel Armendarez was tragically cut short. On February 5, 2025, in a parking lot situated in the 2600 block of North First Avenue, an altercation unfolded that would end in gunfire. Rene, a Hispanic male, was present in the parking lot with a group of people when a brief interaction with another group occurred.
It was during this fleeting exchange, at approximately 11:40 p.m., that shots were fired, striking Armendarez.
Tucson Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene near East Copper Street, where they discovered Rene suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite their immediate and strenuous life-saving efforts, which included administering CPR, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the incident that shattered the night's calm.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit and Shooting Investigations Unit promptly began their inquiry into the events that led to the young man's death. They interviewed witnesses and gathered evidence, quickly accounting for all individuals who were involved in the incident. While the investigation remains active, authorities have indicated that they do not believe there are any outstanding suspects.
