In the autumn of 2016, a wave of violence troubled the city of Omaha, Nebraska. Within a span of nine days, the community was shaken by six homicides, the last of which claimed the life of 33-year-old African-American male Markus Walker. On the evening of Sunday, November 6, 2016, police were called to the vicinity of North 22nd and Fowler Streets. There, they discovered Walker, who had sustained a gunshot wound.
