On December 8, 1981, Gail Leslie Slocum, a 34-year-old white woman, was found stabbed to death in the yard of her home in Oakland's Rockridge District. Her murder was one of several brutal killings in the East Bay area during that period, which remained unsolved for decades. The case saw a breakthrough in 2002 when DNA evidence linked her death to Charles Jackson, a convicted killer who had died in Folsom prison earlier that year.
