On September 16, 1986, Jesse Clarence Dunlap, a 38-year-old man, was fatally shot in Oakland, California, during a drug-related dispute. The assailant, Mervin Ray Hughes, who was 17 years old at the time, was quickly arrested following the incident. Dunlap was rushed to Highland Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Hughes was subsequently convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to eight years in prison.
