Rosa Maria Rosado, a 37-year-old woman, was tragically murdered on March 31, 2001. She was abducted from a bus stop in San Antonio, Texas, by Ramon Torres Hernandez and his accomplices. Hernandez, a registered sex offender, was later convicted for the crime. Rosado was forcibly taken from the bus stop, bound with tape, and had her head covered before being transported to a motel. There, she was sexually assaulted and ultimately killed.
Her body was later discovered in a shallow grave near Loop 1604 and UTSA Boulevard.
Hernandez was one of three individuals involved in the crime. His accomplices included Santos Minjarez, who was also sentenced to death but passed away from an illness while on death row in 2012, and Asel Abdygapparova, who was sentenced to life in prison and will be eligible for parole in 2045. Hernandez was linked to multiple other crimes, including the rape and murder of two teenage girls in the 1990s. He was considered a prime suspect in additional killings in a nearby county.
The case against Hernandez was built on substantial evidence, including a shovel used to bury Rosado, which was purchased by Abdygapparova at Hernandez’s instruction. Hernandez was ultimately executed by lethal injection on November 14, 2012. Before his execution, he expressed remorse for his actions and apologized to his family and the relatives of his victims. The murder of Rosa Maria Rosado remains a harrowing example of violent crime and the pursuit of justice for victims and their families.
