On January 8, 1982, Florence Bell, a 91-year-old white woman, was found murdered in her home on South Summit Street in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She had lived in the same house since 1922. Her throat had been slashed, and there were signs of a struggle, indicating that she had fought her attacker.
