Steven Michael Fefferman, a 28-year-old advertising executive from Fort Worth, Texas, was tragically murdered on December 29, 1986. Fefferman, who worked at KXAS-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth, was the victim of serial killer Ricky Lee Green. On the night of his death, Fefferman had reportedly sought casual companionship, which led him to encounter Green. The two went to Fefferman’s home, where Green brutally attacked him.
Fefferman was tied to his bed with neckties and repeatedly stabbed before being castrated. Green then stole money and fled in Fefferman’s car.
Green’s killing spree spanned multiple victims, including Jeffrey Lynn Davis, Betty Jo Monroe, and Sandra Lorraine Bailey. His crimes were characterized by extreme violence, including sexual assault and mutilation. Despite committing multiple murders, Green remained free for two years until his ex-wife, Sharon Green, confessed to a drug counselor about her involvement in some of the killings. This confession led to Green’s arrest and eventual conviction.
Green was portrayed by prosecutors as a psychopath with a history of substance abuse and violent tendencies. He was sentenced to death for his crimes and was executed by lethal injection on October 8, 1997. In his final statement, Green expressed remorse but also noted that his execution was "just another killing" that would not bring true resolution.
Fefferman’s murder was one of the most gruesome in Green’s series of killings, and his death remains a tragic reminder of the dangers posed by violent offenders. His case contributed to the broader investigation into Green’s crimes, ultimately leading to justice for multiple victims.
