On April 17, 1987, the body of Ann Barnes, a 36-year-old white woman, was discovered lying on her back near downtown Kansas City, Missouri. A passing pedestrian found her in the vicinity of 13th Street and Lydia Avenue. An autopsy revealed that Ann Barnes had been strangled. At the time of her death, she was employed as a housekeeper at St. Mary's Hospital on Main Street and also worked as an exotic dancer at a nearby establishment.
