In the summer of 1973, a visit to the Boone County Fair in Lebanon, Indiana, took a tragic turn for 15-year-old Henry Michael Maser of Whitestown. On July 23rd, the young man, known as Mike, was enjoying the fair with a friend when he wandered off alone. This solitary moment proved to be fateful, as he crossed paths with Cecil Henry Floyd. In a senseless act of violence, Floyd shot the teenager three times in the head before stealing his wallet, which contained only $5.
For six days, the
whereabouts of Henry Michael Maser remained a mystery. His family and friends were left to wonder what had become of the boy who had simply gone to the fair. The search came to a heartbreaking end when his body was discovered in some underbrush. An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was the gunshot wounds he had sustained.
The investigation into the murder of the 15-year-old male eventually led authorities to Cecil Henry Floyd. It was determined that Floyd was responsible for the brutal killing. He was subsequently arrested, tried, and convicted for the murder of Henry Michael Maser. For this crime, he received a life sentence. This was not Floyd's only murder conviction; he was also found guilty of another killing and received a second life term. Floyd remained imprisoned until his death.
