Aree Hunt, a 6-year-old African American boy, tragically lost his life on July 14, 1989, in East St. Louis, Illinois. His death was a result of a heinous crime committed by Lorenzo Fayne, a serial killer who targeted children and young women in the Metro-East area during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Fayne lured Aree away from a playground, sexually assaulted him, and then strangled him to death. Fayne later confessed to the murder, stating that he wanted to hear the sound of a neck breaking.
