James Lee Haynes was a 32-year-old White/Caucasian male whose disappearance on December 7, 1963, became a long-running homicide investigation in southern West Virginia. Haynes was a U.S. Army sergeant and Purple Heart recipient who had served during the Korean War, where he had been shot in the chest.
