On May 10, 1972, the body of 21-year-old Caucasian woman Mary Beth Heinz was discovered floating face down in a muddy stream in a wooded area on Maine Avenue, just west of Peninsula Boulevard in Rockville Centre, New York. The medical examiner determined that she had died from asphyxia due to strangulation and noted multiple contusions and abrasions on her face and neck.
