In the late spring of 1984, the life of a 9-year-old Black female named Vernita Wheat was tragically cut short, marking the beginning of a horrific, multi-state crime spree. Residing in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Vernita was a bright young girl who became an unwitting target. A man named Alton Coleman, who had a history of violent crimes, had cunningly inserted himself into her family's life.
