In the spring of 2022, a 30-year-old Black / African American woman named Montreach Mitchell, a mother of three, found her life tragically cut short. On the afternoon of May 25th, her body was discovered by a housekeeper on the floor of a room at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She had been shot three times.
The man who had rented the room, 29-year-old Timmy Brooks, quickly became the sole person of interest.
Surveillance footage from the hotel captured the couple entering the room together on the evening of May 24th. In the early hours of the next morning, just before 6 a.m., Brooks was recorded leaving the room alone. No one else was seen entering or leaving until the housekeeper made the grim discovery later that day. Other hotel guests reported being awakened by what they believed were gunshots during the night.
Later on the same day his girlfriend's body was found, Brooks turned himself in to the Milwaukee Police Department. He confessed to killing Mitchell, stating that they had been arguing. According to his confession, he grew tired of the argument, retrieved a gun, and shot her in the back of the head. After she fell to the floor, he shot her two more times before fleeing in her car. An investigation found four. 22 caliber shell casings in the hotel room.
Timmy Brooks was charged with first-degree intentional homicide, possession of a firearm by a felon, and multiple counts of bail jumping, as he was out on bond for three other felony cases at the time of the murder. In October 2022, Brooks pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide. In January 2023, a Kenosha County judge sentenced him to life in prison.
