On July 27, 1974, Patricia Franklin, a 30-year-old nurse residing in Linda Vista, California, was tragically murdered in her home. That evening, Billy Lee Chadd, who had intended to commit a burglary, broke into her residence. Upon discovering Patricia Franklin, a 30-year-old Caucasian woman, in her bathtub, Chadd's intentions turned more sinister. He bound her hands and feet with a drapery cord, blindfolded her with a towel, and forcibly moved her to the bedroom.
There, he subjected her to multiple acts of sexual assault, including vaginal, anal, and oral rape. During this horrific ordeal, Chadd inflicted severe injuries, nearly biting off one of her nipples. Ultimately, he strangled Patricia Franklin, a 30-year-old Caucasian female, and stabbed her 15 times with a steak knife, leading to her death. Afterwards, he ransacked the home before fleeing the scene.

This confession, corroborated by the fingerprint evidence from the original crime scene, led to his arrest and subsequent conviction for Patricia Franklin's brutal murder.
