John Harvey Gallaher, known to many as 'Johnny G,' was a 62-year-old white male who worked as a country-and-western disc jockey for WXGI-AM radio in Richmond, Virginia. In addition to his work in radio, he was a bass guitarist and performed with his band. On the night of September 14, 1979, Gallaher was playing a show at a nightclub in South Richmond. During a break between sets, he stepped outside for a cigarette, a simple act that tragically placed him in the path of the notorious Briley gang.
