On May 19, 1980, 14-year-old Sean King, a white male from South Gate, California, was abducted by William Bonin, infamously known as the "Freeway Killer." Bonin, operating alone that day, had previously invited his accomplice, Vernon Butts, to join him, but Butts declined. Undeterred, Bonin proceeded to kidnap Sean King from a bus stop in Downey. Tragically, after subjecting the young boy to sexual assault, Bonin strangled him to death. He then discarded Sean's body in Live Oak Canyon, Yucaipa.
