On June 7, 2008, Mykia Pernal, a 16-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri, was killed in a drive-by shooting in a north St. Louis neighborhood. The shooting, which also injured three other individuals, occurred as Mykia was outside with a group of friends. The incident took place late in the evening, and gunfire erupted suddenly from a vehicle that drove by.
