Mykia Pernal, a 16-year-old Black female, was tragically killed on June 7, 2008, in St. Louis, Missouri. The teenager was enjoying a summer evening with friends, sitting on a porch in the 5000 block of Cates Avenue, when gunfire erupted from a passing vehicle. The shooting, which occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m., sent chaos through the otherwise peaceful neighborhood gathering.
