On January 1, 1980, 16-year-old Michael Francis McDonald, a male teenager from Ontario, California, encountered William Bonin near the Chino Airport. Bonin, later known as the 'Freeway Killer,' lured Michael into his van under the pretense of offering him drugs to sell. Once inside the vehicle, Bonin bound, beat, and sexually assaulted the young male victim. After the assault, Bonin strangled Michael to death.
