Max Mariano Reyes, a 21-year-old resident of Ontario, California, tragically lost his life on January 13, 2020, in a fatal shooting incident. The shooting occurred at the Vistara Apartment Homes located in the 3400 block of East Fourth Street. The Ontario Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 11:32 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men who had been shot; one was found in a hallway and the other near a door.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters. The victims were later identified as Max Mariano Reyes and Andres Gallegos, a 19-year-old from Rowland Heights.
The investigation into the shooting led police to a nearby hospital where a 22-year-old man, Raul Austin Gonzalez, was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound. Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of murder after detectives determined he was involved in the shooting. A fourth individual, who accompanied Gonzalez to the hospital but was not injured, was detained for questioning and later released pending further investigation. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and police have not disclosed whether a weapon was recovered or if the individuals involved lived in the apartment complex.
The Ontario Police Department has continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Reyes and Gallegos. Despite the arrest of Gonzalez, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional suspects or motives. The community has been urged to provide any information that could assist in solving the case.
