In the spring of 1987, a 20-year-old male named Larry Wayne Pearson struck up a friendship with Robert Berdella, the man who would ultimately be his killer. Pearson had wandered into Berdella's shop in the Westport neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri, expressing an interest in witchcraft and the occult, a topic that seemingly connected the two. This newfound friendship led to Pearson moving in with Berdella, working off his rent by helping around the house and at the shop.
