Lashawn Cowart, a 20-year-old African American woman, was tragically murdered on September 25, 1989. She was shot and killed along with her two-year-old son, Travis, while they were driving together. The perpetrator, Michael Bernard Bell, stopped the vehicle, exited, and opened fire on Lashawn and her son. After the shooting, an accomplice vehicle arrived to pick up Bell, allowing him to flee the scene.
