On February 27, 1995, 52-year-old Roberta A. Butler, a Caucasian female, was found dead in her Benicia townhouse. Her son, Jack Barron, discovered her lifeless body in bed, with signs indicating she had been smothered. This tragic event marked the fourth mysterious death in Barron's immediate family over a span of less than three years.
The series of deaths began on June 6, 1992, when Barron's wife, Irene, was found dead in their Sacramento County home.
Authorities later determined she died of asphyxiation. The following year, on February 7, 1993, their 4-year-old son, Jeremy, was found unconscious in his bed and pronounced dead. Another year later, on August 7, 1994, their 4-year-old daughter, Ashley, died under similar circumstances. After these incidents, Barron sold his house and moved in with his mother, Roberta. Shortly thereafter, Roberta was found smothered to death. In response to these events, law enforcement agencies in Solano and Sacramento counties formed a task force to investigate the four deaths. Jack Barron was arrested on suspicion of murder with special circumstances, potentially facing the death penalty if convicted. He was held without bail and scheduled to appear in court in Sacramento. Authorities have not filed charges in his mother's death, awaiting a conviction in Sacramento County to strengthen their case in Solano County. Family members expressed relief upon hearing of Barron's arrest, hoping for justice after enduring such profound loss.
