In the early 1950s, a tragic and disturbing series of events unfolded in Peru, Indiana, involving 23-year-old Flora Maxine Barnett. Between 1951 and 1954, Flora, an unmarried white woman, gave birth to three sons in secrecy: Ray Barnett on June 26, 1951; Marion Barnett on March 8, 1953; and Arthur Barnett on July 24, 1954.
