In a tragic turn of events on a July evening, Al Seals Benson, a 50-year-old man, was killed in a violent robbery that claimed two other lives. The incident occurred at a barber shop in Prattville, Alabama, where Benson and others were playing dominoes.
According to law enforcement, two armed individuals, later identified as Marty Morgan, 35, and Keon Dashon Cain, 19, entered the establishment with the intent to rob the occupants.
Morgan was reportedly armed with a handgun, and Cain with a shotgun. The situation escalated quickly, leading to gunfire.
During the robbery, Eddie Dean Scott, 56, another man present at the barbershop, allegedly grabbed the shotgun carried by Cain. In response, Morgan is said to have fatally shot Scott. In the ensuing chaos, Al Seals Benson was shot in both legs with the handgun. Despite his initial wounds, video evidence reportedly showed Cain approaching Benson as he lay on the floor and shooting him in the back of the head with the shotgun. A third victim, 46-year-old Anthony Smith, was also shot and later succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation into the triple homicide, both Marty Morgan and Keon Dashon Cain were arrested. They have since been indicted on multiple charges, including capital murder, burglary, and armed robbery. The local district attorney's office has indicated that they are considering seeking the death penalty for both defendants. Morgan has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, while Cain has sought youthful offender status. Both men remain in jail without bail awaiting further legal proceedings.
