City Marshal Joseph J. "Joe" Jordan, aged 62, of the Orange Police Department in Texas, tragically died on November 5, 1902. Marshal Jordan was shot and killed while escorting a prisoner to the city jail. The prisoner had been arrested for murder during a personal dispute. As Marshal Jordan and the prisoner walked to the jail, the prisoner's brother ambushed them, shooting Marshal Jordan in an attempt to free his sibling.

Marshal Jordan. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to five years in prison. Marshal Jordan had served with the Orange Police Department for only six months before his untimely death.
