City Marshal Joseph J. "Joe" Jordan, aged 62, of the Orange Police Department in Texas, tragically died on November 5, 1902. Marshal Jordan was shot and killed while escorting a prisoner to the city jail. The prisoner had been arrested for murder during a personal dispute. As Marshal Jordan and the prisoner walked to the jail, the prisoner's brother ambushed them, shooting Marshal Jordan in an attempt to free his sibling.
