Sheriff Joe G. Spurlock, age 34, of Throckmorton County, Texas, tragically died on October 1, 1910, from gunshot wounds he sustained while attempting to serve a warrant. Spurlock, who had served as sheriff for three years, succumbed to his injuries two days after the incident. He was survived by his wife and son.
