Jose Herrera

Jailer Jose Gerardo Herrera, aged 22, was a young correctional officer with the Webb County Sheriff's Department in Texas. On February 3, 1986, Herrera was tragically shot and killed by a prisoner who had somehow obtained a gun. Herrera, who was unarmed at the time, was about to take the prisoner to make a phone call when he saw the gun and was shot in the head. He was immediately taken to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries early the next morning.
