Melvin Kenneth Drum, a 57-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on March 28, 1987, in Perryton, Texas. Chief Deputy Sheriff Drum was performing his duties as a law enforcement officer when he was fatally shot during a traffic stop related to a domestic disturbance call. The suspect, who was still seated in his patrol car, shot him. This incident marked the end of Chief Deputy Drum's eight-year tenure with the Ochiltree County Sheriff's Department. He was survived by his wife.
