He had earlier killed Margarita Flores and her daughter, Delia Morin, and wounded Margarita's son, Dan Morin. After fleeing the murder scene, Moore ambushed the law enforcement officers searching for him. He was eventually captured and later died at a hospital from injuries sustained during the shootout.
The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of two Border Patrol agents and the critical wounding of a sheriff's deputy. The suspect, Ernest Moore, was killed during the shootout.
