On July 7, 1998, Border Patrol Agent Ricardo Guillermo Salinas, aged 24, was fatally shot in Cameron, Texas. Agent Salinas, a male of Hispanic ethnicity, was assigned to the Harlingen Station of the McAllen Sector. He had joined the U.S. Border Patrol on September 8, 1997, and was a graduate of the 351st session of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Charleston, South Carolina.
