SPC Frederick Z. Freddie Greene, a 29-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, tragically lost his life on November 5, 2009, at Fort Hood, Texas. He was a combat engineer assigned to the 16th Signal Company and was preparing to deploy to Afghanistan. Freddie was known for his quiet intelligence and dedication to his family and faith. Freddie's death was part of a larger tragedy, as he was one of the 13 victims of a shooting rampage carried out by a disgruntled U.S. Army psychiatrist, Nidal Hasan. The incident resulted in 13 deaths and more than 30 injuries. Hasan was later charged and found guilty of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to death in August 2013.
