Reshawna Danielle Hawkins, a 30-year-old woman from Beaumont, Texas, tragically lost her life on March 16, 2014. She was fatally shot in the face at her home on Fourth Street in Beaumont. The incident occurred during a violent altercation involving her brother, Joe Frederick Hawkins, who was later arrested and charged with her murder.
Joe Frederick Hawkins, 27 years old at the time, was accused of killing his sister Reshawna, as well as his two brothers, Anthony Ray Jr.
and Darrel Hawkins, during the same incident. He also wounded his girlfriend in the attack, who was the only survivor. Witnesses reported that Joe Frederick Hawkins had an altercation with all four victims before producing a handgun and opening fire.
Following the tragic event, Joe Frederick Hawkins was apprehended by Beaumont police on March 17, 2014. He was later indicted on three counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Jefferson County prosecutors chose not to seek the death penalty due to his intellectual disability, with an IQ below 70. Assistant District Attorney Rachel Grove stated that while nothing could bring back Mrs. Hawkins' children, justice required that Joe Frederick Hawkins be held responsible for his actions.
The Hawkins family faced a devastating loss, and the community was left in shock by the tragic events. The case highlighted the importance of addressing domestic violence and ensuring that those responsible for such heinous acts are held accountable.
