Summary based on 2 sources
A 45-year-old woman named Renne Nelson, who was originally from Oklahoma, was trying to build a life for herself in Beaumont, Texas. Though many details of her personal life remain private, those who knew her, even casually, felt she was a person who did not deserve her violent end. Her life was tragically cut short in the fall of 2026, leaving behind the unanswered question of what her future might have held. In news reports, her first name was often spelled Renee.

On the morning of Tuesday, October 27, 2026, an employee at the Midtown Inn on North 11th Street in Beaumont made a devastating discovery. Around 1:35 a.m., police were called to the motel after Renne Nelson was found unresponsive inside one of the rooms. When officers and Beaumont EMS arrived, they pronounced her dead at the scene at 2:15 a.m. Investigators noted signs of a struggle and determined that foul play was involved. An autopsy later confirmed she had died from at least one stab wound, not a gunshot.

The Beaumont Police Department’s homicide investigation began immediately. Detectives obtained surveillance video from the motel, which provided a crucial timeline. The footage showed Renne entering her room alone at approximately 3:29 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, two days before she was found. Later that day, at about 5:15 p.m., a man was recorded entering her room. The same man was seen leaving alone less than an hour later, at 5:58 p.m., driving away in a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee. Renne was never seen leaving the room again, leading investigators to believe she was killed during that 43-minute window on Sunday afternoon.

Using the surveillance footage, detectives and the department's real-time crime center focused on identifying the vehicle. They were able to trace the Jeep to its registered owner, who informed them that the vehicle had been loaned to a man named Travis Dontae Hall. Investigators then positively identified Hall, a 36-year-old resident of nearby China, Texas, as the man seen entering and leaving Renne’s motel room. With assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department's Warrant Division, Beaumont police located and arrested Hall.

After being taken to the police department for questioning, Travis Hall was charged with the murder of Renne Nelson. As he was being transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, he spoke briefly to news reporters. He apologized to Renne's family, stating, "It was the worst mistake I ever made." He claimed he was "heavily under the influence" and "made a bad decision." Police have not commented on a motive or the nature of the relationship between Hall and Nelson.

Following his arrest, Hall was also booked on an unrelated active warrant out of Dallas County for the continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. A Jefferson County magistrate judge set his bond for the murder charge at $1 million. As of late October 2026, the case against Travis Hall is in the litigation phase. The investigation into Renne Nelson's death is ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to her murder. There is no information about a reward or a specific tip line for this case.
