Javier Vega Jr., a 36-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, was a dedicated agent of the United States Border Patrol. On August 3, 2014, while on an off-duty trip near Santa Monica, Texas, Vega was tragically shot and killed by Gustavo Tijerina Sandoval, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. Vega was fishing with his wife, children, and parents when two illegal aliens approached them and attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
