Ziauddien Sharique Khan, a 44-year-old male of South Asian descent, tragically lost his life on August 23, 2014, in Houston, Texas. Khan was working as a clerk at the FM 529 Smoke Shop when he was shot multiple times by an armed robber who then fled with the cash drawer. Khan was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect in this case, Sergio Ramon Gil, a 22-year-old male, was arrested and charged with capital murder.
Gil was identified through surveillance footage from another smoke shop robbery that occurred a few days earlier. During the investigation, it was revealed that Gil had committed several smoke shop robberies, and he confessed to the shooting death of Khan. Gil was taken into custody and placed in the Harris County Jail.
