On October 25, 2014, in Dallas, Texas, 22-year-old Alexis Fernando Estrada Zambrano was fatally shot while changing a flat tire on Dilido Road in Old East Dallas. Surveillance footage revealed that as Zambrano was addressing the flat tire, he was approached by a 16-year-old male. A physical altercation ensued, culminating in the 16-year-old shooting Zambrano in the face.
The assailant then fled the scene alongside 18-year-old Jason Steven, who had been in the car with Zambrano prior to the incident. Two other passengers in the vehicle also fled in different directions.
Investigations uncovered that the murder was premeditated. According to arrest warrant affidavits, Jason Steven orchestrated the plan due to prior conflicts with Zambrano. Steven contacted Zambrano under the pretense of needing a ride. After the vehicle encountered a flat tire, Steven alerted the 16-year-old and another accomplice of their location to execute the plan. Initially, the accomplice was designated to carry out the shooting but withdrew, leading the 16-year-old to commit the act.
Law enforcement arrested both the 16-year-old and Jason Steven, charging them with murder. Due to his age, the identity of the 16-year-old has been withheld. Jason Steven is currently held in the Dallas County Jail without bail and is also under an immigration hold, as records indicate he is in the country illegally. A 15-year-old suspect was also apprehended in connection with the case, though details regarding their involvement remain undisclosed. All three individuals face murder charges.
