Michael Oliver Otten, a 52-year-old male of German ethnicity, was tragically killed on January 16, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. Otten, who was born on September 27, 1962, in Bremen, Germany, was a longtime FBI informant involved in a courthouse corruption probe in Bexar County. His death occurred during a shooting in the 400 block of Linda Drive, where he was one of two victims.
The suspect in Otten's murder, Frank Campos, a 44-year-old male, was arrested the following day and charged
with capital murder. Campos was believed to be a neighbor from across the street and was involved in a dispute with Otten. The shooting took place in Otten's garage, and Campos fled the scene in Otten's Toyota Tacoma. Campos later pleaded guilty to the murders of Otten and another victim, Anthony Reams, as part of a plea bargain. He was sentenced to life in prison for each murder, with the sentences to run consecutively.
The double slaying was not believed to be related to the federal corruption investigation Otten was involved in but was instead a result of the dispute between neighbors. The tragic incident left Otten's family and friends grieving the loss of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
