Wesley Lane Keene, a 55-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, tragically lost his life on July 4, 2015, while working as a security guard at KLAD Manufacturing in Houston, Texas. He was born on May 28, 1960, in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena before later earning a degree from the University of Houston. Keene is survived by his three sons, Jordan, Justin, and Jacob, as well as his parents, Floyd and Barbara Keene, and his brother, Jason.
Keene
was found shot and killed in the parking lot of the manufacturing company by a friend who went to check on him after receiving an inaudible voice message. The Houston Police Department initially stated that there was no known motive or suspects in the killing. The case remained unsolved for several years, with the family and community left in shock and seeking answers.
In August 2021, the HPD Homicide Cold Case Unit made a significant breakthrough. They arrested Tyderrian Deleon Duffield, a 27-year-old male, and charged him with capital murder in connection with Keene's death. Duffield was identified as a serial burglary suspect involved in numerous overnight commercial warehouse burglaries around the state at the time of Keene's death. He was taken into custody while in court on unrelated charges and later charged with Keene's murder.
The arrest brought some closure to Keene's family and the community, although the pain of losing him remains. The case highlights the importance of cold case investigations and the dedication of law enforcement to seek justice, even years after a crime has occurred.
