David Gerard Thomas, 24, a Black man from St. Louis, Missouri, was found dead late one night in north St. Louis after police were called to the 2900 block of North 21st Street, a stretch of roadway near St. Louis Park. Investigators discovered his body at around 11 p.m., turning a quiet corner of the neighborhood into a flashing-lit crime scene as officers began canvassing for anyone who might have heard shots, an argument, or the hurried footsteps of someone fleeing into the dark.
